The day on the war

Overnight into Saturday, both Russia and Ukraine reported new drone and missile attacks, resulting in civilian casualties. In Kyiv, a Russian drone struck between a five-story residential building and a commercial establishment in the Solomianskyi district, injuring four people, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Fires also broke out near warehouse buildings in Darnytskyi district and at a store. Russia's Rostov region governor, Yury Slyusar, stated that five people, including a child, were injured from drone impacts on residential buildings in Taganrog and Azov.

Kyiv claimed its air defenses shot down 134 out of 173 Russian drones launched overnight, while Russia asserted it downed 645 Ukrainian drones over 13 regions, the Black Sea, and Sea of Azov. Separately, a Russian drone attacked a vehicle carrying energy workers in the Odesa region, killing one and injuring another.

On the diplomatic front, the US proposed preliminary technical-level trilateral talks between US, Ukrainian, and Russian delegations in the United Arab Emirates. This follows US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, where Rubio said both sides expressed interest in a limited ceasefire for grain and energy targets, though Lavrov expressed skepticism about Europe's intentions.
