The day on the war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, proposing an "energy ceasefire" where Ukraine would stop striking Russian energy infrastructure if Moscow ceases attacks on Ukraine's power grid. Zelenskyy clarified that Trump did not demand a unilateral halt to Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries.

This diplomatic push comes as reciprocal aerial attacks persist; Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone assault overnight, killing five people in Dnipro and Sumy and hitting industrial and port facilities. Simultaneously, Ukraine reported damaging two more Russian oil refineries in long-range drone strikes, resulting in one fatality and four injuries in Samara. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are slated to convey Kyiv's energy ceasefire proposal to Moscow.
