IPOs & the primary market

India's primary market remains active, with several issues closing and opening this week. Skyways Air Services, which closed its mainboard IPO on August 26, saw an oversubscription of 71.25 times, with allotment scheduled for August 28. Its estimated listing price of ₹182 indicates a 31.88% premium over the IPO price of ₹138. [21] Symbiotec Pharmalab, also closed on August 26, was subscribed 71.26 times, with allotment also on August 28. [21] Lumino Industries' mainboard IPO opened on August 27, priced at ₹78–₹82 per share, aiming to raise ₹700 crore. [12, 21] Today, August 28, marks the opening of several new IPOs, including mainboard issues from ESDS Software Solution and Priority Jewels, alongside SME offerings from Complete Sports & Management India and Paluck Technologies. Valuation watch — India & global

While specific Nifty PE ratios or global Shiller CAPE updates since August 26 are not available, signals of froth are apparent in the primary market. Several upcoming Indian IPOs are generating significant buzz, with Grey Market Premiums (GMPs) suggesting potential listing gains up to 33%. [23] For instance, Infinity Infoway reportedly has the highest GMP, indicating strong speculative demand. [23] This heightened activity and high premiums in new listings point to an enthusiastic investor appetite, particularly in the unlisted space, which often precedes broader market valuation discussions.

Monsoon watch

As of August 26, India's cumulative southwest monsoon rainfall registered a 13% deficit compared to the Long Period Average (LPA), placing it in the normal category. [20] The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts below-normal rainfall for the remainder of August and September, influenced by strengthening El Niño conditions. [20, 27] Despite this, a recent report noted that the monsoon situation has improved significantly, easing concerns for the Kharif crop, although rainfall distribution remains a key factor. [24] Total Kharif sowing was 2% below last year's levels as of August 14, a notable recovery from a 21% shortfall in late June. [24] Reservoir storage in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat remains at or above the 10-year average. [24]
