The story

Belgium produced one of the FIFA World Cup 2026's most dramatic comebacks, overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time at Seattle Stadium. Senegal had taken a commanding lead with goals from Habib Diarra in the 25th minute and Ismaila Sarr in the 51st minute.

However, Belgium mounted a stunning late rally, with Romelu Lukaku scoring in the 86th minute and Youri Tielemans equalizing in the 89th minute to force extra time. The decisive moment came deep into extra time when Tielemans converted a penalty in the 125th minute, awarded after a VAR review, sealing Belgium's remarkable progression to the Round of 16.
