The story

At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, India began their five-match T20I series against West Indies with a commanding eight-wicket win. After opting to bowl first, India restricted West Indies to 171 all out in 19.1 overs. Debutant Naman Dhir impressed with figures of 3/31 from his four overs, while Axar Patel claimed 2/26 and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets. For the West Indies, Sherfane Rutherford top-scored with a brisk 56 off 34 balls, supported by Shai Hope's 52 off 37 deliveries.

India's chase got off to a shaky start, losing both openers Abhishek Sharma (21) and Sanju Samson (11) within the powerplay. However, captain Shreyas Iyer then took control, smashing his maiden T20I century with an unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls. He was ably supported by Ishan Kishan, who remained not out on 37 off 27 balls. Their unbroken 137-run partnership for the third wicket saw India reach the target of 172 in just 14.4 overs, sealing a comprehensive victory with 32 balls to spare. Iyer was named Player of the Match for his century.
