The story

Day 3 of the second Test between Sri Lanka and India at the Sinhalese Sports Club saw Sri Lanka mount a spirited fightback, primarily through Pasindu Sooriyabandara's maiden Test fifty. Resuming their first innings at 8/2, trailing India's declared total of 503/9 by 495 runs, Sri Lanka lost Kamil Mishara early for 19, dismissed by Prasidh Krishna.

However, Sooriyabandara found an able partner in Kamindu Mendis, and the duo stitched together an 87-run stand for the fourth wicket. Sooriyabandara reached his half-century, providing much-needed stability.

Just before lunch, Prasidh Krishna struck again, removing Kamindu Mendis for 32, breaking the crucial partnership. At the lunch interval, Sri Lanka stood at 130/4, still trailing India by 373 runs. Play was delayed after lunch due to a wet outfield in Colombo.
