The story

The first Test between India and Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium concluded on Day 5 with India sealing a commanding 196-run victory. Resuming the day with Sri Lanka at 84/4, chasing a formidable target of 372, the hosts showed some resistance through a 95-run partnership between skipper Dhananjaya de Silva (59) and Sonal Dinusha (65*).

However, India's bowlers maintained pressure, with Ravindra Jadeja breaking the threatening stand by dismissing de Silva. Soon after, Prasidh Krishna accounted for Niroshan Dickwella (10).

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 175 in their second innings. Devdutt Padikkal's maiden Test century of 167 in the first innings, complemented by Rishabh Pant's aggressive 66 in the second, laid the foundation for India's imposing total. Manav Suthar also contributed significantly with the ball, taking 4/76 in the first innings and 2/30 in the second.
