The story

Day one of the first Test between Australia and Bangladesh at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin saw a dominant performance from Bangladesh's bowlers. After Australia elected to bat, they were bowled out for just 198 in their first innings.

Hasan Mahmud was the standout performer, claiming career-best figures of 6/54. [9] He consistently troubled the Australian batters, picking up key wickets throughout the innings. Steve Smith top-scored for Australia with 60 runs, but received little support as wickets fell at regular intervals. [9] Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain also contributed with two wickets each. [21] By stumps, Bangladesh had reached 76/1 in their first innings, with Tanzid Hasan (28*) and Mominul Haque (14*) at the crease, trailing Australia by 122 runs. [21] Nathan Lyon dropped a catch off Tanzid Hasan early in Bangladesh's innings, a missed opportunity for Australia to press their advantage. [9]
