Lahiru Udara's Maiden Test Century Puts Sri Lanka in Control on Day 1 Against West Indies
Udara's magnificent 188, supported by Kamindu Mendis, helped Sri Lanka reach 338/5 at stumps in the second Test in Antigua.
The story
At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Sri Lanka's Lahiru Udara seized an unexpected opportunity, crafting a superb 188 runs on the opening day of the second Test against West Indies. Having elected to bat, Sri Lanka initially faltered, losing Nishan Madushka (6) and Dinesh Chandimal (1) early to Shamar Joseph, who claimed two wickets for 60 runs.
However, Udara, in only his third Test, then combined with Kamindu Mendis (84) for a dominant 215-run third-wicket partnership. Udara reached his maiden Test century before tea, eventually falling for 188 off 248 balls, featuring 21 fours and 5 sixes.
Jayden Seales marked his 100th Test wicket by dismissing captain Dhananjaya de Silva (33) in the final half-hour. Sri Lanka finished the day on a strong 338/5.
