The hosts take an early lead in the three-match T20I series at Sabina Park.
The story
At Sabina Park in Kingston, West Indies clinched a comfortable seven-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the opening T20I of their series. Sri Lanka, after winning the toss and electing to bat, made an aggressive start but lost three wickets during the powerplay.
Kamindu Mendis anchored the innings with a composed 51 runs from 39 deliveries, forming a crucial 50-run partnership with Dasun Shanaka. Despite Mendis' efforts, West Indies' bowlers maintained control, restricting Sri Lanka to 147/9.
Jason Holder was exceptional with figures of 3/18, while Shamar Joseph also claimed 3/29. In response, West Indies' openers Brandon King and captain Shai Hope set a strong foundation, racing to 66 in the powerplay. Hope remained unbeaten with 65 runs, guiding his team to chase down the target of 148 with four balls to spare.
